MISSION OPPORTUNITIES TO PAY IT FORWARD TO OUR NEIGHBORS IN S. OAKLAND COUNTY.

Wellspring Church maintains a strong relationship with our brothers and sisters in and around our former neighborhood from when we were Northwestern Baptist Church in Southfield.

When we move away from family, we still keep in touch and support them whenever we can.

Sometimes All We Need is the Idea ...

So here are some opportunities that you might want to get involved in:

FRIENDSHIP HOUSE 4TH SUNDAY SUPPER CLUB

Recognizing the increasing challenges to impoverished people in Hamtramck, Friendship House has formed a Forth Sunday Supper Club on the last Sunday of each month from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.  The idea behind the Forth Sunday Supper Club is to welcome homeless and others to the Friendship House lobby, where they will received a light supper, including at least one hot item.  The forth Sunday was selected because it's often difficult for the poor to stretch their resources through the lat week of the month.

Each Sunday Club is sponsored by a local church or group.  Ideally, 3-6 volunteers bring the food and paper goods for about 40 people and serve those who come for a free meal.  Volunteers are encouraged to mingle with the guests to make them feel welcomed.

Please contact our office or Friendship House for more details. Everyone seems to want to help the poor at Thanks giving and Christmas, but people need help year round.

WARMING CENTER AT FIRST BAPTIST FERNDALE

First Baptist Ferndale and First Baptist Royal Oak host the South Oakland Warming Center in the winter months.

The  South Oakland Warming Center is a non-profit organization that only runs during the coldest months of the winter, from the end of December through early March.  Their mission statement is as follows: "To provide safety, warmth, food, hope and resources within a welcoming Christian community to the homeless in South Oakland Count."

South Oakland Warming Center is a "walk in" center for homeless folks that come right in off the street.  They are averaging 60 to 120 guests a night but are thinking in this distressed economy they may be looking at 150 to 200 per night.  They are housed in the Fellowship Hall and receive a hot dinner, bedding, breakfast the following morning and a sack lunch to take with them.

People that come to the Warming Center arrive at 9:00 pm and leave the next morning by 7:00 am.  Most are street people and few have any type of employment.  Both men and women are offered shelter.  They do not very often get families but when they do they provide accommodations for them as well.

Because of the number of people it takes to provide a safe, secure and well run outreach they are always looking for volunteers to help in various duties such as: clean up, security and, most important, visiting with our guests.  The time commitment is from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.  Also they need overnight volunteers.

There is always financial donations, cleaning supplies, pillows, socks, warm blankets, winter coats and packets of hot cereal needed.  They are looking at an average cost for the 10 days of $5,000.00.  this covers the heat, water, electricity, come of the food that is not donated and materials.  So you can see any financial donation would be WONDERFUL and a true blessing!

Contact First Baptist Ferndale (248) 545-4664 with any questions.
